First Post: Why I Built This Website
Hello, it’s my first post. Just a quick introduction, my name is Gerald, work as a systems engineer and my daily professional life revolves around IT infrastructure. Lately, I have also been exploring the world of cybersecurity very intensively. Outside of the tech world, i’m a huge football fan of Manchester United #GGMU.
However, i believe that the learning process is never truly complete without documentation and sharing. That realization is what finally motivated me to build this website.
Why “diktyon”?
Literally, the word Diktyon (δίκτυον) comes from ancient Greek and translates to “net”. I chose this name because it carries a philosophy that perfectly aligns with what i do and what i believe in:
-
Networks in IT: In systems architecture, a network is the critical foundation that connects various nodes, routers, and servers so that the entire infrastructure can communicate and operate smoothly.
-
Networks in Relationships: Outside of the technical aspect, a “network” is about human connection. It is about how we build relationships, connect ideas, share valuable insights, and grow alongside other people.
-
The calling of the disciples: In the Bible, diktyon is the word used for the fishing nets of the first disciples. Leaving their nets behind to follow a higher calling represents a willingness to pursue greater purpose and meaning beyond daily routine.
What will you find here?
This website will serve as my digital repository and open workspace. I plan to share content centered around two main areas:
-
Network & Cybersecurity: As a way to contribute and document my expertise, i will regularly post technical articles, lab experiment, best practices, and insights regarding network architecture and cybersecurity.
-
Book reviews: Our professional lives should not be limited to staring at terminal screens and troubleshooting systems, jk. I will be sharing book reviews here. These reviews will cover various topics, from work to self development, that go beyond the IT world.
More than just a one way blog, diktyon.net is designed to be a space for discussion. If you share a similar passion for technology, are currently diving into SecOps, simply want to discuss a book you just read, or even want to chat about the latest Manchester United match, this space is wide open for you.
